What Connects Us … Good Connections

We believe people are everything … from our team, to our customers and to our communities.

During the Covid-19 pandemic we’ve been thinking creatively about how we keep connected. These vital human connections are never more important than at this time when we’re all in a lockdown situation.

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Adapting and Connecting with our NHS:

Sadly, we had to close our venues and suspend trading, but we turned this negative situation into a positive. Over 2,000 bedroom bookings have been given to our NHS frontline workers, allowing them to continue their crucial work, while protecting their own families at home, all at no cost to individuals.

Connecting in the Community:

We’ve seen some amazing displays of kindness and togetherness from our local communities. Some of our venues have received food parcels and tokens of appreciation for the NHS workers staying with us. And we’ve also donated food parcels, made meals and delivered those to charities around our hotels.

Connecting our Team:

Keeping our team connected is important, especially during this time, when everything in the world feels uncertain and in flux. Support and reassurance are paramount. We look out for each other. We’re lucky to have Yapster, an online tool connecting us, where we chat, post photos and videos, and find lots of information and resources. And more importantly, there’s always someone to talk to. Keeping those good connections is crucial.

Present Connections:

Who doesn’t love a surprise gift? Team members looking after our venues for NHS workers have been surprised by unexpected deliveries of home baking and other goodies – carefully left by other members of our team. Little reminders to show we care for each other are appreciated and keep us going.

Creative Connections:

We launched our MV TV channel! Every Friday evening, we start the weekend in a huge online video chat. There are updates on business matters but mainly, it’s about keeping connected and having fun. This has led to our first Manorview Bake-Off … more below …

Cake Connections!

We held our first ever virtual Manorview Bake-off! Everyone was encouraged to get into their kitchen and bake! The first challenge was to secure flour amid a current shop shortage! Thankfully our resourceful team were successful. Many team members surprised us by showing off their bakes online, displaying hidden natural talents … and no soggy bottoms! This event looks set to be repeated … we’ll need to ramp up those fitness videos …

Family Connections: Welcoming New Team Additions:

Little Mason John Armstrong made his appearance into the world on 19th April, weighing in at a healthy 6lbs 4oz. Mum, Caitlin and dad, Graham, are both part of our team at Cornhill Castle. We’re absolutely delighted for them and can’t wait to meet him in person!

Thank you for reading. We hope you enjoyed a snapshot of what’s been happening behind the scenes at Manorview.

Stay safe, be kind to each other, and keep connected.

Looking after our teams and our communities – our next steps

Following our decision to suspend trading which we announced last week, we’ve been taking steps to further protect our team, customers & communities.

The safety of our team, and of others, has always been our first priority.

As of today, we’ve moved onto the next stage of our preparations.

Firstly, all teams are away from our venues, with only essential team members in place, this will continue our commitment to the health and wellbeing of us all.

We are urging all of the Manorview team to stay at home, contributing to the solution rather than adding to the problem.

Secondly, we have stepped up our NHS commitment.

More than ever, we need to secure the health, safety and wellbeing of our NHS team. They are on the front line, helping us all, and saving lives. We are there for them.

Some of our venues are being occupied by our NHS workers. Our rooms have been offered to NHS teams on the front line and are open to any acute services team who wish to isolate themselves away from family and friends to care for our sick. This is at no charge to individuals.

Our company is proud & grateful to our team and how they have responded and risen to this situation we all find ourselves in. The attitude of our team has made this negative situation more positive.

We’ve also been overwhelmed and humbled by the many messages of support we’ve received.

To all our customers, suppliers, friends and supporters, many of you are going through worrying times yourselves, we thank you for taking time to show us your support. It means a lot to us. It encourages us to make the difference & to be positive.

It’s a time for us all to act in a selfless way, to show humility and empathy, and to help one another where we can.

Take care, stay safe and be kind to one another.

    Suspension of Trading

To All Our Customers, Supporters and Friends

It is with great regret that we have made the decision to suspend trading as from 12noon on 18th March 2020. We are uncertain when we will be in a position to reopen and trade as normal.

While we have not been advised to suspend our business, we have decided to take this action and all our venues will be closed.

We have taken this decision to try to remove some of the uncertainty that surrounds us. We are taking this action to look after the health and safety of others, while also looking ahead to the sustainability of our business and ways to support our team and our commitment to not making any redundancies.

We believe it is the right thing to do, to protect our teams and customers, to look ahead to the future, and hopefully we can all come back from this stronger.

We regret we are having to make this decision, but the safety and welfare of people is paramount.

We are living in unprecedented times.

There are a few points we wish to reiterate:

    – We will not be making any of our teams or team members redundant.
    – Our whole workforce will continue to receive 50% of their average weekly gross earnings until further notice.
    – This is effective throughout the whole team, from directors, leadership team and throughout from Wednesday 18th March 2020.
    – While our venues and normal trading business will be closed, we will be operating an administrative team, and also maintaining the safety and security of our properties.
    – We will be operating take-out and delivery service from some of our units, from next week, we will update you with more details of this service.

We are also choosing to look at ways we can contribute to the current situation and play our part in helping those in need.

    – We have reached out to the NHS to offer our bedrooms as a resource where needed.

We are currently supporting all our teams to try and protect them during this extremely difficult time, which is challenging everyone in our industry.

We are also contacting all our customers who have bookings with us. We are working with them to reassure them we will look after them as best we can. While our venues will not be accessible, we will have an administrative team available via phone and email for any questions.

As a business, as a team, and as individuals, we are all concerned about the health and safety of others.

We hope you, your family and friends, are all safe and well at this moment in time, and continue to keep well, as we all work together to get through this worrying time.

In the meantime, we would like to thank you all for your valued and very much appreciated support and loyalty.

We hope we will see you all again very soon.
